THE PIG Kitchen and Chefs Team

When you think of a chefs role, what comes to mind? Long hours in a hot kitchen, shouting, swearing and high stress? Well that’s not what it’s like being a chef at the PIG. Fancy getting away from the big cities and back to the country!

Through a variety of shift patterns whether you have a family or hobbies, we aim to provide a work life balance. Chefs work early and late shifts and some kitchens operate a 4 day on 3 day off rota.

Our kitchens run on a brigade of 18 chefs overseen by our chef Director James Golding.

THE PIG hotels are really Restaurants with rooms, with the emphasis on simple modern British food, influenced by the seasons, forest and coast, with the emphasis on fresh, clean flavours. All our dishes are made with the freshest produce, not delivered in frozen in bulk, and definitely no microwaves!


From Garden to Plate

Our menu changes by the minute depending on what the forager finds, or the kitchen gardener deems to be in perfect condition – in the summer up to 80% of fresh produce used on the menu has come from our own gardens.

Lead by our Head chefs who are all “Home Grown” and worked their way up through the ranks you will be working alongside fantastic local suppliers, producers and butchers. We like to promote from within, so you have plenty of opportunity for progression, and with new hotels on the horizon the opportunities are endless. We encourage our chefs to learn and grow during their time with us and will personalise your training and encourage you to.

As a member of the kitchen team we offer tailored development, from week one induction to in house training such as – food safety, food hygiene, COSHH, manual handling, fire training. On top of the serious stuff you also get to enjoy:

  • Butchery, charcuterie, fish, pasta and bread masterclasses
  • Foraging with local experts
  • Weekly kitchen garden tours and harvesting workshops
  • An environment with livestock such as pigs, chickens, sheep, quail and bees.
  • Visits to local suppliers
  • Regular tasting of new dishes and ingredients
